Join us for dim sum and then some – ring in the Year of the Dragon with an insider's tour of three Hong Kong-style malls in Richmond’s bustling Golden Village, enjoy Chinese New Year celebrations at a Buddhist temple modeled after the Forbidden City, partake in a traditional Chinese tea ceremony and cheer on lion dancers aplenty. With a population that is 65 per cent Asian and with more residents of Chinese ancestry than any other Canadian city (44 per cent), Richmond offers visitors a taste of the Far East on the West Coast.
Richmond is famously home to "the best Chinese food outside of China" and a local dining expert will show you where to go year-round to enjoy a traditional Chinese New Year feast. We'll also sample the many signature flavours along Alexandra Road, the city's 'Wai Sek Kai' or 'Food Street', where 200-plus Asian eateries serve tasty specialties like xiao long bao ("soup dumplings") and hand-pulled noodles. Along the way, you'll meet with influential local Asian-Canadians to gain an insider's perspective into the changing face of Richmond's dynamic Chinese community.
